I’m by no means a photographer. Far from it. The camera? A simple Fujifilm ‘tourist on holiday’ effort. Still, when it vanished for a few days I felt lost. I like to just walk around Dublin and snap things. Here’s a few from a beautiful Thursday.
Do you believe in ghosts? These ones anyway. The classic Pacman ghost appears by two, up by the NCAD.
No Al Calcio Moderno: The Green Brigade are a Celtic Ultras supporters group. I like this sticker lots. Bob Marley having a kickabout.
Our man in the White House: In the excellent Kenny’s, Lucan village. Farewell pints were had for Simon, off to Taiwan. So long, young Simon.
The ‘Polish Church’: Everyone in Dublin seems to just call this one The Polish Church. Saint Audoen’s is a beautiful church, and my grandparents were actually married in it. Not Polish, mind.
The writing is on the wall: This is up by Liberty Hall, there for yonks and not the only reminder of the Lisbon Treaty around the city either.
Oifig An Poist: I love this one, right around the corner from the Brazen Head. I’m pretty sure this is still a functioning post office. After The Irish Yeast Co., it’s my favourite shopfront going.
A.S Roma: Love seeing football flags hanging from apartments, people take the love of their lives with them anywhere they go. You don’t pick your team, you normally inherit it.
Here is the news: This one is up by the side entrance to the GPO Mall. Who says the news is all gone online, we all still have lunch breaks don’t we?

Speaking of reminders of Lisbon, I remember seeing a doctored anti-litter poster down some back-alley in town saying “Lisbon is disgusting, so are those responsible.”
Love the pacman graffiti. I was a “pac-maniac” back in the day. I also *love* taking pictures around town with my simple point-and-shoot camera. I think portability is the most important factor for me in choosing a camera (that and durability since I tend to drop my camera more than I’d like to admit…). Looking forward to seeing more of your photos of Dublin.
Thanks for that Dr J, realy enjoyed looking over your site there.
Some great images, and I see you also snapped the merhorses on the bridge! Nobody sees them!
@dfallon Thanks for visiting Sidewalk Safari. I’ve only been in Dublin a short while but I’ve already managed to take well over 1000 pictures. I’m publishing 1-2 posts a day so stay tuned for more fun photos! Regarding the merhorses — I do have an eye for detail 😉
I didn’t think I’d ever say this but having looked at that last shot- Poor Ivor- some people might start mistaking him for Larry Murphy 😉
