Thanks for that Boz. Very interesting interview.
Don’t forget The Strypes!! Great young band from Cavan…. https://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Strypes/209082819114610?sk=info
Ah, fuck off!
Who’s going to volunteer to cover the pre-New Wave scene? I remember as a young teenager seeing guitar hero Jimmy Slevin in Stephen’s Green and Blackrock Park (I think). Very creditable powerhouse blues to my young ears. My sister also knew Brush Shields.
Brush can be seen every second Friday in Block C at Dalymount.
No mention of the Baggot Inn……
Mentioned here Michael:

Hi All
Anyone remember ‘The Departure’ who gigged around Dublin in the (very) early 1980s? I used to go to see them in a venue on Parnell Street, the name of which I can’t recall right now (the gargle’s dimmed me brain I’m afraid). They had their own songs, ‘No More Sailings on Sundays’ springs to mind, and they did a great cover of The Stranglers ‘Hangin’ Around’.

Thanks Matthew – I seem to remember the keyboard player was a thin guy with glasses and he could play. I really enjoyed those gigs – The Tudor Rooms on Parnell Street I think. About 1980 / 81.
Any chance of doing some articles on Dublin’s Metal and Goth scenes? There’s Bruxelles and the ever reliable Fibbers, and for the Goth scene, you can’t forget the late lamented Bartley Dunnes. 🙂
Years later but , I’d love to see something like this , I pretty much lived in Fibbers in the eighties to mid 90s as a metalhead (with occasional trip to Bruxelles or Charlies in Ainger st ).Its a pity as the rock/metal scene nerver gets the same retrospectives that the punk or mods get in things like Tribes of Dublin…
Hi everyone
Hope you can help me out here I’m trying to do a piece about the arrival of punk in Ireland, both in Dublin and Belfast. The angle I’m taking is the moral panic created by the establishment in the media. I know state papers released in 2008 revealed the government in 1978 were worried the sex pistols were a threat to the country’s morals. But what was it like on the streets for young people involved in the punk scene ? was there a lot of harassment by the gardai? were you frequently turned away from pubs and other places ? was everyone against the punks ?
Mick
You can hardly mention Dublin music without mention of U2 and what they have done for Dublin music (good or bad)

Anyone remember The Chosen Few? Bit before most of the posts here but they were true pioneers.
Hi Terry,
I’ve lived in London since ’69 ‘ however , as a young teenage lad growing up in mid 60s Dublin I recall loving Blues/Soul/ Folk music. I saw The Chosen
Few , Peter Adler and The Action, Bluesville, The Creatures, many times
at the 5 Club, The Scene, The Countdown and The Nevin Tennis Club.
Also ,often saw Emmett Spiceland and Sweeney’s Men play /at The Chariot Inn in Ranelagh. Many moons ago now that I recall with pleasure.
Don’t forget Club Caroline in Dun Laoghaire. Saw Them when Van Morrison was the lead singer. I remember they were the first to have an all night session. 🙂
