David Norris is one of the most likeable figures about the city, without a shadow of a doubt. While I see he’s said in the media he will be, if elected, a President who happens to be gay rather than a gay President, it still has to be seen as a remarkable sign of the progressions in Irish society.

I think when the lid is lifted on Norris you’ll find he will be neither likeable or popular no more!!
A pattern is establishing itself and on that basis I’ll be adding what I’ve known for thirty years, he has to much to hide and to big a mouth to succeed in that endeavour.
He may be a man of the people, the people that matter, everyone else is expendable.
I think David Norris is more a fan of David Norris than of the people. He’s an endless self promoter but life ain’t perfect and they also serve a purpose. Considering the prevailing atmosphere he began his career in you’d have to have a big ego to survive it. I might even vote for him. It would say something if he got to be president him being gay but not as much as some might imagine. There’s nothing better before breakfast than upsetting arch Catholics.
There should be an option on the ballot to abolish the office of the presidency. Considering the state of Ireland’s finances all the free loader political jobs should be scrapped.
Mr. Norris expended a great amount of energy in 2000/01 trying to get the bottom of North Great Georges St closed off to traffic, keep the parnell st/summerhill riff raff out of his joycean dreamland. He didnt succeed although that end of the street did become one way eventually.
I’ve always regarded him as another free loader. He’s been living off the Senate for years. We’d have a nation of opinionated campaigning foghorns if every body got short working hours, good pay, subsidised food and an expense account in a job that carried no real weight. I’ll still vote for him thought just because he’s gay. Is that reverse discrimination?
‘Is that reverse discrimination?’
I don’t think so!
The preseident’s role is mainly symbolic. So, voting for a symbolic reason makes sense to me…
I thought voting against the other candidates because they weren’t gay might mean they could claim discrimination.
