There’s been great controversy around Shelbourne’s defeat to Sheriff Y.C on Friday night in the F.A.I Cup, with some claiming the match was fixed. Certainly, discussions on some betting forums and the ‘tip’ which seems to have been passed on to many in the LOI community give some credibility to the claim, but did Sheriff just play their hearts out? Who knows. Reports from people at the match suggest a very lackluster effort from Shels in the second half. More questions than answers…

The only thing suspicious thing in that match was Lorcan Fitzgerald’s celebration!
Seriously though, absolutely smashing goals. Very hard to call. I’d put it down to a poor Shelbourne performance.
The betting odds is the only head scratcher for me.
screamers! 3 crackin goals. hard to conclude from highlights about the general play though…let’s say there must have been a strong wind from left to right
Well, you’d have to question the keeper’s positioning for the first Sheriff goal. While I don’t think he’d have saved the second (the free) he doesn’t even move. Third one was undoubtedly unsaveable. The penalty miss was very suspect too and the Shels players reactions weren’t what you’d expect in that situation. In those highlights at least, Shels defenders are just letting Sheriff players ghost past them and they seem to have had a lot of chances that you wouldn’t expect a league side to give up to a non league side. Now it also seems that one of the Sheriff players was ineligible to play in the game having played for another non league side in an earlier round. This game smells of match fixing.
