A classic Dublin new wave single from a band called Spies (1978 – 80) from Howth.
Joey Barry, the lead singer, was later in the Thee Amazing Colossal Men. The guitarist, Gerry Leonard, later went on to become David Bowie’s musical director and lead guitar player.
I’ve recently uploaded the A side ‘Thinking About The Sun’ from their first and only single.

The Spies were originally called the Dark, if memory serves. They used to do a gig every Sunday afternoon in the Summit Inn in Howth and me and my mates went up to one or two of them. Great musicians. Great afternoons. There was also a song called “Let’s go insane” which I remember as a sort of slower version of “Thinking about the sun”! I thought “Let’s go insane” was issued as a single as well – by The Dark before they became the Spies?
I am listening to a song called plastic(backstreet) love by the spies.it is on australian countdown . I think it is plastic love.
