An unusual and very rare one, from Leonard Cohen in Dublin 1972.
Perhaps even more unusual than a recent rendition of the song ‘Kevin Barry’ posted here, by Paul Robeson.
Update: Since this post, we’ve ran a piece on Kevin and his fellow UCD student Frank Flood, both executed during the War of Independence.
It was in fact nineteen summers, he was born early, died late. This is a fact that can be altered by poetic licence. I’m not sure if a headline qualifies!! I knew his niece and found her very nice but one of the saddest people I knew. Her son, a childhood friend of ours was named after him. It was with utter amazement I found this out two years ago. I have been told of others I was related to and what I can’t figure out , is why no one ever told me.

I’ve never heard of the River Club before – I wonder where that was?
I did a quick search through the Irish Times digital archive.
The River Club, “Ireland’s most exciting in spot” was found at 4 Bachelors Walk. It was completely gutted by a fire on Sunday, November 19 1972. (Eight months after Cohen’s visit)
[A venue also called The River Club ran from 1996 – 2003 at 48 Wellington Quay)
