Aquascutum is one of the quintessential London brands. Regent Street to the core, the company have been on the go since 1851. It’s long been one of my favourite brands, pricey as it is the pieces hold up well in the long-term and the elegant look of the items is timeless. While an Aquascutum coat remains slightly unattainable at present (Student bank account, every time the ATM dispenses money I dance on the street), it is one of the staple pieces I hope to get my hands on down the line.
Efforts to stick Pierce Brosnan in a nice suit and sell the brand to ‘that’ kind of man (You know the kind, boat shoes) are probably an attempt to move the brand away from any association with football hooliganism, the old British hooligan logic being that if it looks nice they’ll wear it while kicking each other in the head. Still, the brand has a rich history and tradition, with many of the items still made in the UK today.
The arrival of the brand in Arnotts, the oldest department store in Dublin, is most welcome. Perhaps no more dancing at the ATM for me….

You can check out the Aquascutum Sale here, at their website. A number of jobs sites seem to be advertising jobs at the new Arnotts store, if anyone is sick of the couch yet.

Arnott’s were always canny marketeers. Check this out:

i looked at their site and I think their style is awful; shurely the skinny, clingy look which is disparaged for young women shouldn’t be encouraged for boys either.
and as for their prices….. shirts on SALE are STARTING at £40.00…. ridiculous; like everything CelticTiger they’re completely lacking VALUE FOR MONEY.
Kinda gender non-specific too.
Hey, knock your self out and buy it if you want to……… but then don’t complain about being broke in these lean times when also on a Student budget. Try the following for clothes that are long term stylish and not just fashionable for a couple of months …….

Fair enough Niall, not a bad shout either on Brooks there^.
Regarding the ‘couple of months’ comment though, I think a piece like an Aquascutum jacket will last through several winters, they’ve certainly survived two world wars selling much the same with regards staples.
I agree re: the dosh, though I’ve never paid anything near that for a shirt on sale. Turn them £s into €s, and it’s silly money. A good sale at House of Fraser or the like will always work out cheaper than buying from the company themselves online.
Plus, I’ve me student discount 😉
yeah but I too was once a thin, skinny student but the ravages of old age, alcohol and sitting in an office 24 hours a day working for ‘the man’ now leaves me fitting only one limb into an Aquascutum coat.!??!
Loose and baggy is the style for anyone over 30 years old……. society doesn’t need to see your giggly bits once you’re over 30.
If you’re a student then why would you want to dress like a ‘corp-type on furlough’? Student days & clothing should be synonimous with tee shirts & jeans etc… it’s not like you’ll get much of a chance again once you graduate and get a job. When Im home from the office it’s straight into my Dubs or Celtic shirt as a contrast to my day-time starched collar & tie etc.
Replace Celtic with Hibs and we’re not too different Niall 😉
While we’re on the subject of high fashion, what about back to basics. A heart gladdener observed in Raheny today.
