At the minute there is an excellent photo-exhibition running at Kilmainham Jail on the restoration years, entitled Kilmainham Calling. It is important to remember we owe all this to the hard work of volunteers (in some cases ‘Volunteers’ of more than one kind!) who gave up time to help restore Kilmainham Jail to what it is today.

The pencil sketch was drawn by Dublin artist Desmond Stephenson, who’s father was Paddy Joe Stephenson one of the founding members of Kilmainham Gaol Restoration Committee May 1959.Paddy Joe was an 1916 volunteer and fought in the Mendicity Institute along with Sean Heuston.
In 3/12/1943 Paddy Stephen unveiled a memorial statue to Sean Heuston in the People Gardens Phoenix Park.
