I’m not sure if anyone noticed the following as a corollary to Ireland receiving a loan from the British Govt but……. when the US Federal Reserve gave out ‘ginormous’ amounts of federal funding under it’s TARP program the largest beneficiary was Barclay’s Bank. Therefore we can see that cross-border govt support of the banks isn’t just a Empire-reminising Whitehall support to peasant Ireland. Mind you, the banks, Govt and citizens shouldn’t be in the present situation but for the ignorance & arrogence of many in Ireland.
“………London-based Barclays Plc took the biggest single amount [from the US Fed Reserve Bank] under another program that made overnight loans, when it got $47.9 billion on Sept. 18, 2008.”
