My daughter sighs everytime we pass Des Kelly’s and I say, for the umpteenth time ‘I saw the Ramones in there’ so it’ll be nice to have proof that, in this case, its not just the ravings of a foolish old man. Thanks.
Those pics of the Ramones are great, but in the same batch are a few photos from the Magnet of (the original) Microdisney & Mean Features (featuring a young Mick Lynch, later in Stump). Pretty exciting stuff, would love to see more from that venue.

I took those photos of the Ramones and I now believe they are from the Cabra gig and not the State Cinema one.
I was at both gigs and thought they were taken at The State but someone pointed out to me that DeeDee’s Tee-shirt is for the Ramones film , which only came out in 1980.
I also recently located the original negatives for the pics and the date on the envelope is 1980.
If anyone was at either of those gigs and can confrim this I would be grateful.

The pic of the fans dancing between the chairs tells me its the cabra grand in 1980 as i was at that gig, also alan arkush’s rock n roll high school the movie was released in 1979!! It may have been released in europe in 1980. I thought the state cinema gig was in 1977??

Thanks for this!…amazing pics and memories! I was at both shows and they were wild. The State gig was Sun 24 Sept 1978…Kerry lashed Dublin in the All-Ireland that day and the pub I was drining in Phibsboro got wrecked by disgruntled Dubs “fans” on their way back from Croker after the match! Checking wiki the next Ramones gig in Dublin seems to be 8 Oct 1980…that must be Cabra. There was some nasty violence after the Cabra gig…I believe skinheads who weren’t at the show attacked people leaving the gig.
Can anyone get me a copy of the Hot Press ad for the Phibsboro gig shown above? Or anything related to either gig?

I distinctly remember the State gig was all seated! Well, for the first few minutes anyway. The first five or six rows of seats were ripped up and chucked to the back so we could pogo! I would love to see a couple of pics.
@Kieran…it was actually a load of mods and rockers who ran amok before and after the cabra grand gig. we had to run a gauntlet through the mob to get into the gig. the lead singer of local punk band the epidemix was stabbed.

I was there. Holy Jaysus, what a gig! They were like a sonic juggernaut, came in kicked you in the bollox, and left. All 2 minute sound bombs. Gig was about an hour and 10 minutes, short and brilliantly to the point
