Our recent review of 2010 included vanishing penguins, trucks at the Dail, famous Italians in Tallaght, Mary Byrne and spraypainted Ballymun towers. Since writing it, it’s dawned on me I forgot a couple of things.
1: Culchies of the year:
Crystal Swing, to the credit, were actually lovely people and did a lot for charity. It was great to see them get their five minutes, and feck the begrudgers.
Still, we won’t be forgiving these t-shirts in a hurry.
2: Odd man of the year:
No comment on that one….
3: Fianna Failer of the year:
This deserving winner did very well here, interviewing Mary O’ Rourke.
4: Difficult to watch moment of the year:
“We are out for Ireland for the Irish. But who are the Irish? Not the rack-renting, slum-owning landlord; not the sweating, profit-grinding capitalist; not the sleek and oily lawyer; not the prostitute pressman — the hired liars of the enemy. Not these are the Irish upon whom the future depends. Not these, but the Irish working class, the only secure foundation upon which a free nation can be reared.”
Joe Duffy became a socialist again for a few weeks, promoting James Connolly as ‘Ireland’s Greatest’.
5:Biggest waste of 90 minutes:
It was hard not to smile when Dave Mulcahy got this goal in the glory friendly at Lansdowne Road.
What about the lads who robbed the Penguin from the Zoo! Story of the year it has to be.
