Great videos here from Youtuber Sebastian Dooris.
In recent weeks I’ve noticed a man sitting on the O’Connell Bridge most days joined by a dog, which isn’t at all unusual on the streets of Dublin. What is unusual however is the fact that alongside the dog is a rabbit.
These videos have surfaced from yesterday showing the man retriving the rabbit from the River Liffey. Just another day at O’Connell Bridge eh?

i bought that man a milkshake before hes a nice guy, really want to help him out =[
Agree it’s a marvellous video.
Any idea how the rabbit got in the water and how the man got down to the base of the pillar? Can rabbits swim?
What is the apparent struggle in the dinghy after the man is picked up?
The impatient should go straight in to about 4m 50s.
This is a story of human of human endeavour and one man’s dedication to his faithful companion. Risking life and limb the man braves the murky snotty waters of the Liffey to rescue his best friend. Undeterred by lurking sea gulls and the unknown dwellers of the slime, he pulls his friend to the relative safety of a ledge. But they’re not out of trouble. The waters lapping at his feet are rising dangerously. Shivering and isolated they try to stay alive and hope for a rescue mission. By the time a rescue ship reaches them his friend is only barely moving. His ears are drooping and the lights in his big eyes have begun fading away. Nearing the shoe the man calls desperately “I need a burger, I need a burger”. He has become so traumatised out of concern for his soul mate he’s delirious and has forgotten the word “doctor”. On the quayside the medical team swing into action. Slowly his friends eyes open, he stops shivering his long ears straighten as they regain their colour: he’s alive…he’s ok….the crowd let out a great cheer. A burger arrives…
The bond between man and rabbit is one that goes back many centuries. It’s origins are lost in the mists of time…
the man got into an argument with another homeless man and the other homeless man threw the rabbit into the liffey then the man jumped in and swam with the rabbit to the piller
Thanks Maco. That adds a whole dimension to the story.
Just passed by this bloke in Henry St. with the rabbit and the dog. He seems to transport the rabbit, and perhaps the dog too, around in one of those pull along shopping trolleys beloved of auld wans in scarves. Hadn’t a clue about him, and then a mate sent me a link to the Swastika Laundry story and when I explore further I see this guy again. Synchronicity.
Saw the man with trolley, dog and rabbit (peeping out from far underarm) on O’Connell bridge today.

Close up:

Don’t anyone eat that rabbit!!
