We’ve come a long way from the likes of Joe Duffy bravely risking prison for the student movement back in the day. Where are our teeth gone?
This is why the student movement is doomed….

An Irish university is a future TD’s early learning centre where the Freeloader mentality is alive and well! Look out all you PRSI slaves, they’re training a new batch!

Glad I left the place while it was still worth staying, what can I say, Ireland is royally screwed, people still have that attitude where everything is entitled to them. I hope things get worse 🙂
@Happily Departed. Your gleeful comment may well be the most pathetic thing I’ve read all week. It must be such an exalting experience to spout utter nonsense about a changing culture you are no longer embedded in. Bravo.
The Germans are running the economy now! Panic?…no hold, on that’s probably better than a bunch of overpaid gombeen potatoes running the economy. We should vote to be invaded by a country of our choice. It’d be the cheapest least violent invasion in history. Real economics would be used as the basis for running a country. Instead we’ve got Mary Harney, who thinks she’s worth 130 Grand a year. She must think a politicians value is based on weight.
I must say I don’t see a problem with this, a little tacky certainly, but hardly a reason to bemoan the youth of today, this was an event where colleges from around the country sent up bus loads of students from around the country, thousands of them, why shouldn’t they go to a nightclub afterwards?
There’s a common argument that “if students are able to go out on the piss regularly, why can’t they can afford to contribute more to the cost of their education? 40% of students are on grants, so fee increases would only affect middle-class binge-drinking whingers.”
It’s that line of thinking, and stereotype, which have to be challenged. Unfortunately, holding official protest after parties in nightclubs makes that a more difficult task.
It’s amazing that all these exclusive schools and university’s have managed in the last fifty years to turn out the gobshites who’ve bankrupted the country. In Irish hands democracy is like collectively pulling the pin out of a grenade. It’ll blow up in yer mush every time…
