Great stuff from ADW, one of our favourite street artists here in the capital. A great tribute to the late Gil Scott Heron, located on Middle Abbey Street.
Yeah the doctors don’t know, but New York was killing me,
Bunch of doctors coming round, they don’t know
That New York is killing me
Yeah I need to go home and take it slow in Jackson, Tennessee
Let me tell ya fast city ain’t living all
It’s cracked up to be
Fast city living it all
It’s cracked up to be
Yes seem I need to go home
And slow down in Jackson, Tennessee
Really good stuff the granny!!
woah! what a great video! what a great tribute!
Best shopfront in Dublin without a doubt.. hopefully remains
His Da played for Celtic, seriously. Gilbert Snr was a Jamaican-born professional footballer, died in 2008 aged 87. Became their first ever black player in the early 50s. Thought it was a wind up when I heard it first but its true.
Went past at 6pm today. Looks like it’s gone already. Glad I saw it yesterday and then here this morning.
GSH: “… New York is killing me”
Ehh no that be the cocaine, jail and HIV+ which wud have been a greater contrinuting factor.
GSH was a brill artist however he was given the finest of educations and selfishly gave it up to end up a dependant dying in, of all places, NYC.
His education shud have led him to medicine (for example) and treating the ailing and dependant , not being one. Again he was brill but wasted talent.
An ignorant statement to say the least. @Niall, was it not his decision to follow the life he wanted? I don’t see it as a waste, he was an incredible artist. If he became the doctor you suggest, you wouldn’t have his records.
As for the stencil, great piece of work.
Jim wrote”…was it not his decision to …”
No it wasn’t his decision to end up in jail, it was the police, judge etc like what happens to all drug-dependants.
“…If he became the doctor you suggest…”
Ehh no he cud have been a doc, like I suggest, and still be an artist or activist. Take, for example Dr D Hickey – sporting artist, medical doctor and Cuban activist. Then there’s Bono + Bob Geldof – both artist (to a degree) and artists (and arseholes). It called the ability to multi-task
Jim, I hope you find this posting less “ignorant”. BTW might your replys to mine be less insulting and more factual else I adhere to the old saying “never argue with a fool else they’ll bring u down to their level and beat u with experience”
Of course that shud read…
“…both artists (to a degree) and activists (and arseholes)…”
Sure.
