Competition for the most expensive pint of Guinness in Dublin here, I somehow found myself in The Quays in Temple Bar recently and was obliged to pay a staggering €5.60 for a pint. Its one of those pubs with the bad kind of trad blaring out at three in the afternoon so you’d expect it to be that bit more expensive than normal but… €5.60?!
Whilst there, we got chatting to a couple from Paris who asked us if these were “typical Dublin prices?” When someone from Paris complains about the price of a pint, you know you’re doing something wrong… Anyone else know of a more expensive one?
Comes with a free litre of petrol, well it should do at that price.
Isn’t it pretty much the same in all Temple Bar bars? The prices are aimed at the unsuspecting tourists, which is sad. It does Dublin no credit. Fortunately you have many other and better options, many of which you’ve featured for us previously.
Never, never will I listen to these guys moaning about the terrible drop in the bar trade. They deserve everything they get
Over 6 quid for a pint in Oliver St John Gogartys on Saturday night. Don’t ask why I was there – won’t be returning. place was jammers too.
Isn’t a pint €6.50 in Fitzsimon’s?
€6.50 for a Guinness?! I know I paid €5.80 for a pint of Heineken in there before… And €5.40 in the Auld Dub a while back!
I’ve only ever been in there when it’s late so maybe the prices go up at a certain time, but it was €6.50 for a pint, and even €6.50 for a small bottle of Carlsberg last time I ventured in there on a Saturday night. Scandalous prices even if they’ve to pay whatever charge they have to pay to serve late.
The time on the receipt is after normal closing time, so you are paying late night prices. I think the bars pay over 400 euro a night for this facility.
@Jimmy Behan – what time is “closing time” anymore, i thought it was liberalised. And there’s a big difference between 11.59 and 2 am
Closing time in Dublin is 11/ 30 p.m. with one hour extra on Friday & Saturday & one hour on Sunday on bank holiday weekends.
A frog complaining about a 5.60 pint is hilarious. Was there in ’12 and paid over 14.
