Canadian singer-songwriter Emm Gryner, who is of Irish and Filipino descent, covers The Blades’ classic 1983 single ‘Downmarket’.
Changing ‘Everything’s black and white and grey’ to ‘Everything’s black and white and red’ seems to be the only change she made.
The original:
Downmarket came out Autumn ’83, not long after the Lark in the Park in St Anne’s, Raheny. Well done to Emm for picking this one out. Never understood why more of his stuff, especially Some People Smile, didn’t get done along the way. A mate of mine used to do an acoustic version of The Reunion in the pubs, that always went down well even when most there were hearing it for the first time.
Lovely to hear a new intretation of the Blades classic. To be honest I thought the lyrics are fine as they are.
jaycarax: Great to see the Blades are still remembered – what an underrated band ! Love the LoI stuff as well. Keep up the good work ! Liam
