My brother is now the king of the car boot sales. He comes back with some top class stuff. Like this timely tune.
Last Sunday, he arrives home from Harold’s Cross with a bag of records. Loads of the things. Spanish folk to ‘novelty’ records and everything in between. A Crashed Records 7″ from 1983 caught my eye, if only for the title.
‘Cause I’m On The Dole – Don’t Mean I Can’t Rock N’ Roll was a 1983 number from the band Jukebox. The B Side is ‘I Washed My Jeans’ (No point really if you’re on the Dole, who is going to see them?) The single was released on Crashed Records, based in the Donaghmede Centre of Dublin 13. Google has heard very little about the tune it seems, tragic as at the minute it’s National Anthem material. It’s not half bad either.
So turn up the speakers there (If you haven’t sold them yet) and give this one a play.

Musically, it’s a wee bit awful, but kind of cool nonetheless.
It’s probably better than any of the ‘heavy metal’ crap that you listen to!
Some more info on ‘Jukebox’ from Irishrock.org:
JUKEBOX – see Richie Laurence band:
Richie Laurence Band — heavy rock from Nenagh, outside Limerick.
Real name Larry Richardson. Band was called Wildlife, consisting mostly of relatives. Recorded a demo in 1983 w/ “Wildlife”/”We Know It’s Not You”. Appeared on SBB — anyone have a video? Nothing happened for the band, probably due to lack of commitment of other members, and Richie/Larry stuck to cover bands and/or folky material therafter. This included the pop/cover/showband called Jukebox which included future Tuesday Blue drummer Ray Fean (pre-1986) and future Toucandance drummer Tommy Brennan (1986-88). Later reverted to the Richie Laurence Band or Richie Laurence Squad.
But does anyone have this heavy rock demo from the early 80s?
Where’s the car boot sale in Harolds cross – is it every sunday??
I’ve loads of cd’s your bro can buy.
I’ve been on the lookout for a carboot around dublin.
Any info appreciated – thanks!
Hey Siobhan!
Our other contributer ‘hxci’, did a post on here called ‘Off to Ringsend in the Sun’ which has information on the carboots. He picked up a few bargains himself recently.

They’re a good way to earn a quick buck. Depending what you’re selling, there’s the Dublin Flea Market on the last Sunday of every month too.
Thanks for letting me know and giving the link
