I’m afraid that seems to be an old photo from Le Monde…if I am correct it is now derelict and three of the fine adjoining buildings demolished……..I’ll try send a photo later.
Are you sure you’re not mixing The Swan up with the old derelict pub on the junction of Aungier Street and Upper Digges Street Jim? The Swan was certainly there on Friday anyways!
Jim Hacker ,
hate to tell you this but hXci is Right . your thinking of the old Aungier house pub facing the old jacobs biscuits factory which is now the DIT Aungier, Lynch’s Swan pub is facing Whitefriar street church and the Avalon house and the Pub is in front of Glovers court york street
Swan is still there, and hopefully always will be. Nice Dutch Billy next door too (even though it urgently needs some attention)
Re: the abandoned Pub further up the street, it’s still in excellent condition (even if it’s neighbours are long gone) and would be great to see it re-used.
I was in The Swan recently as part of my List Of Things To Do and I thought it was a perfect place for me. I was surprised that it featured so much rugby “paraphernalia” around the place and little on the history of the place itself.
[…] Swans epitomise elegance, beauty and a sense of mystery, and so it’s no surprise to see the edifice that houses Lynch’s aka ‘The Swan’ bar, encapsulates exactly those qualities. […]

…..and if I am correct the now derelict pub is owned by a certain local authority……..

Love The Swan. An underrated gem of a pub.

Was shot up by a Free State armoured car in 1922 if I recall correclty!
For a while, thanks to a few missing letters on the old sign it was known – to DIT students anyway – as ‘The Wan Lunge’
