“The delights a stroll around Dublin can bring you. I’ve always carried my camera around with me, but have only recently started to take it out and not give a shite that I look like a tourist.”
Sometimes I even post the resulting photographs up here. Below are the fruits of this weeks labours…
Anyone who can tell me where the above is, I’ll buy you a pint. Below, the Castle Hotel on Great Denmark Street.
Below is a selection of graffiti from Rutland Place, a street in Dublin I’d never been down prior today… Bizaarely enough, you think you know the city inside out and then somewhere new suprises you. Pics read left to right, a good 30 foot of tags.
The auld ones on Capel Street selling their wares. Click to enlarge, cropped due to excessive traffic/ peoples heads getting in the way. I still like it.
A random Dublin shot, Nicholas of Myra on the left, Spitalfields (one of my favourite Dublin Street names) just behind me.
Whoever Caroline McDonagh is, she’s obviously not very nice. Loads of scribbles like this all around the Liberties area!
Your very own Celtic Tiger outdoor swimming pool. Pretty sure it wasn’t meant to be that way, but the wildlife have taken over. Hannover Lane, not far from the Liberties if you want a look.
Is the top one Rainsford street or Grand Canal place at the back of Guinnesse’s?
Neither… Its a difficult one, I’ll be surprised if anyone gets it!
Near Smithfield?
Is that the lane that runs down parallel to Moore St?
Nope. I’ll give you a clue. Its about a hundred yards from O’Connell Street.
The Spire is sticking out of the chimney.
Moore lane!

One of the buildings near or on moore lane that might be demolished for the extension of the Ilac centre? I’m thinking that the overgrown redbrick building in the top left of the photo is a derelict pub on Parnell street (the name of which I’ve forgotten). It would certainly tally with the clue of being near O’Connell street.
Niall wins… Although somehow comments got mixed up. Its the lane behind Conway’s of Parnell Street. Well spotted!
See? All that time spent in the much missed Conway’s has stood me in good stead. I suppose now you’re going to tell me that’s where my pint is waiting.
Well it was a toss up between Conway’s or The Welcome Inn. You’ve probably more of a chance of Conway’s being open!
Makes me miss Dublin!
Don’t worry, I could post a lot more snaps that wouldn’t.
Ah balls! Niall got in ahead of me. I had mates who lived beside Conways when it was still open. A bunch of local young lads used to have a little hut thing to hang out in just off that lane in behind the hoarding. Love the Capel St. shot and the last one too.
first pic not South Studios? In the Tenters, d8?
Here is a quick snap taken in the city. What’s wrong in this photo?

I am not sure if it is what you are looking for, but it is the first time I have noticed that those beautiful concrete lamp posts are now gone from D’Olier Street. These once lined from O’Connell Street right down D’Olier Street and to College Street. It seems it there are now only one or two left on College Street. The rest have been replaced with ‘heritage’ style lamps.
Actually Philip there is somebody dangerously breaking the law in that photo.
Thanks FXR. I thought that seemed too normal an activity in Dublin to be the something wrong that you were looking for.
Philip if you look at the car in the foreground you can see another car just at the back of it. The guy driving turned right at speed from Bachelors Walk and sped across O’Connell bridge on the wrong side. When he realised his mistake he swerved onto Aston Quay.
Ah, I though you were talking about the guy jay-walking. What you describe sounds lethal. A million miles from my lamp post theory too.
Thanks,
Philip
You’d think it was unusual. I took this one at night only weeks before. I don’t know how the woman wasn’t bet into the front of the bus. http://photos3.pix.ie/7A/57/7A5790D5649740CE8D2049D6FD039867-0000342737-0002865997-00800L-8EE69ACAA4FB4C45B58A6A0067638AC7.jpg
