It’s a rare occurence these days that I stay in Dublin on a Saturday night and am still able to get up bright and early on the Sunday morning. Having spent yesterday in a dark basement singing/ screeching with a guitar strapped to my back, drinking someone elses beer (cheers Chris lad,) I decided to take a stroll around the city and take a few pictures, it being a lovely morning and all. A guesstimate on Google Maps afterwards worked out at 7.8 kilometres. Not bad for a mornings work.

Dublin on a sunny Sunday morning. Nowhere in the world comes close.
All the threat of floods, gale force winds and rain seem to be out by a day or so, there was no sign of it on my adventures…

Hadn't seen these before, up there with the new Bertie ones.
Political stickers are making a resurgence in Dublin, it makes for a change, lampposts that were once covered in stickers from obscure Eastern European Ultras groups now sport piss-takes of Bertie, Brian Cowen and the rest…
- I love this one, from around the back of Shebeen Chic.
DFallon has done a couple of articles on the Battle for Mount Street Bridge on here before, (here and here) and I found myself up that direction. I wanted to take a decent picture of the front of the building but when I got there, the windows were wide open and there was a couple dangling out the window enjoying their breakfast so I didn’t disturb them. I wonder do they know the historical relevance of the building they reside in?

From this window, a garrison of two men held back repeated charges from the British Army, Easter Week, 1916

British machine gunners commandeered this tower and thus ended the Battle for Mount Street Bridge
As well as political stickers on poles in Dublin, there are some that make absolutely no sense at all, except maybe to those who designed them. Whatever floats your boat I suppose.

Do they though?
Walking around Dublin on a Sunday morning with nothing to do, I took it upon myself to walk down roads and lanes I’d never been down before, for no reason other than it was a fine morning and there wasn’t a whole lot else to do; The last few pictures are a result of that…

Dark tunnel, somewhere off Pearse Street.

This lad has featured on here before...

The only Shamrock that'll get a favourable mention on this blog.
Great site. Keep up the good work. Rath ar an obair.
Cheers Póló, same goes for yourself!
Lovely pictures, glad you missed the rain! =D
The shot from Pearse St. to Fenian St. : much neglected area.
Shot up Haddington Rd. : St. Mary’s is an amazing church, not only in history, but in its current existence. Worth a separate post in itself.
Awesome pictures Ci! 😀

Dublin looks so much better when there’s a bit of sunshine.
nearly five miles…. nice one. About what time of the day did you start?
in August I was up (mid-week) at about 6.30am and had a walk around my area; very different from later in the day. The only ones about were the construction workers doing (early) over time to get a job completed by deadline date. Very few shops open even for breakfast or the paper and most at that time were staffed by immigrants.
No problem with immigrants. But they can be very frustrating when you are relying on them to fill in your local family history.
On reflection, same could apply to locals.
Everyone living in the present, these days.
